Something old, something new…

Nothing borrowed, nothing blue yet, though – except for the shirt I wore today🙂

But really, the point of the post title is that I had some old favorites and some new experiences in the food department today! Let’s get to it, shall we?

***One more important thing to note: THANK YOU for your kind comments regarding that HG Ebleskiver email! I was so flattered that you thought of me – it really made my day!!!***

BREAKFAST

Let me start out by saying that my body did not want to rise out of bed this morning. In fact, at first it absolutely refused to – prompting me to set the alarm for an extra 30 minutes of shut-eye! Of course, that 30 minutes went by much faster than it was supposed to, to which my body replied “NO WAY!” before my brain finally forced it out from under the covers. Ah, the joys of Mondays.

Needless to say, I was pretty “off” and not really in the mood for a huge breakfast. I decided to make a mug of Coffee Cocoa while deciding what else to eat.

***Note: A certain someone (whose name rhymes with stealthy crashley) has dared me to do something REVOLUTIONARY with my Coffee Cocoa tomorrow morning. Find out all about the chilling experiment and the person behind it all – Tuesday!***

I’m a broadcast journalism major, what can I say?

Moving right along, I eventually decided to have microwaved poached egg whites. I used 2 servings of All Whites and sprinkled in 1/2 oz. of goat cheese and another 1/2 oz. of fat-free feta cheese.

A break from the conventional grain breakfast in favor of something more savory felt just right this morning. I think I’m going to start doing this more often for a bit more variation!

LUNCH

I worked through the morning without stopping for a snack (sheesh, I told ya I was feeling “off” – no snack for me is quite unusual!) and by the time I finally reached “lunch time,” I was in the same mood I had been in with breakfast. So I snacked on a delicious Fuji apple while deciding on what else to eat.

Eventually, I decided to use up the last of my gift card from Cosi.

No more free meals from Cosi? Sigh.

But I definitely picked the right day to use it because I got Etruscan whole grain breadFRESH. FROM. THE. OVEN.

I like Cosi bread anytime. But fresh from the oven? It was warmer than ever and not even sliced in half yet, so it kept all of its doughiness intact. Ah yes, this brought me out of my “off” day, no question!

I got my “something old” for lunch, in the form of the Bombay Chicken Salad.

As always, this salad comes with tandoori chicken, red peppers, red onions, cucumbers and mixed greens. And as always, I substituted the peppercorn ranch dressing for the reduced-fat ginger soy dressing because 1) I like it better and 2) It’s better for you!

GOOD NEWS, though: I am also a Cosi card holder, and for every 10 entrees you buy, you get one free! So all is not completely lost, and Cosi and I will meet again soon, I’m sure:)

AFTERNOON SNACK

My “off” morning finally caught up with me mid-afternoon, so I decided to have both my morning and afternoon snacks  I started out with “something new” – a new Clif mini-bar flavor – chocolate brownie!!

I think by this point it’s obvious how much I love Clif Chocolate Brownie ZBaRs, so I was very eager to give the mini version a try. Here’s what it looked like outside the wrapper:

It looks a little different (kinda gross, actually!) but the smell and taste are generally the same. So far, the box of minis is 2 for 2 – we’ve got one flavor left, think it can go all the way? I’m hoping it will!

I also finished off the bag of TJ’s BBQ Soy Crisps. I will definitely be buying these again.

DINNER

After work, I met up with my mom, brother and Bobby at Noodles & Company for dinner (my mom and bro came back to hang out for a few more days)! I decided on the Med salad for dinner tonight.

It came with feta, kalamata olives, tomatoes and cavatappi noodles. I also added in some shrimp and got the yogurt dressing on the side. The dressing is seriously the best part of this salad – so creamy!

Following dinner, we went to the gym for a nice long workout on the elliptical. I’m feeling much more refreshed now! But ready for bed:)

Thanks again for the Ebleskiver compliments – they really did make my day!

Sweet dreams 🙂

  2. glad your appetite came back for you to have your clif bar this afternoon! yeah, it might look gross but i think that one is the best clif bar flavor…alongside the apple one…i forgot what it’s called.

-Yay for BBQ soy crisps–I’ve never had the TJ’s brand though…wish we had one of those stores around here!

  4. it’s really funny, my favorite clif z bar is the chocolate brownie and i don’t like the chocolate chip nearly as much. BUT with the clif minis i LOVE the chocolate chip and usually leave the chocolate brownies in the box for someone else to eat. Weird huh?

  5. I am going to try my first Clif Z-bar today – and mostly because of seeing it on your blog! I can’t seem to find the mini’s anywhere, though 🙁

I’ve really enjoyed reading your blog over the past few weeks – maybe because I graduated with a degree in journalism too? Hum… 🙂

  6. Haha you are too funny! 😀 Can’t wait for the “revolutionary” coffee cocoa experiment!!

Ooo that brownie clif bar look SO good! Must try this the next time I see it at the store!

  7. I wanted to try Clif Bars, as I did find them at Costco. But I ended up picking up thinkprotein bars instead. I might give Clif bars a try sometime, because you can buy them separate in the grocery store.

  8. Sounds like a day of good eats!! Happy Tuesday Jenn! And I knew EXACTLY what you meant by not wanting to get out of bed…I feel like that has been me for the last 4 days!

  9. I’m drooling (well, not really. in my mind) all over that coffee cocoa! um, YUM! all of your food looks great, ooh especially the hot fresh Cosi 🙂

and ugh, totally know what you mean about Mondays… I’ve had many mornings like that! I’ll quote a Garfield comment: “sleep would be so much better if I was awake to enjoy it.” haha!

I love your blog – I’ve linked you in my new one: iameatingtolive.wordpress.com

  10. Anna ~ The portions at Noodles are great – you can choose from small or large, and the large isn’t too terribly huge, either. They have nutritionals posted on their website if you want to check it out: http://www.noodles.com/

Melissa ~ Thanks, I’m very excited about it 🙂

Caroline ~ I wish all the grocery stores people talk about on blogs would be everywhere so that all foodies could access them 🙂

Liz ~ Haha, why thank you 🙂

Sarah ~ I definitely understand where you’re coming from! Weird how they can be made by the same company and taste different?

Rose ~ Thanks for checking out my blog! I’m so glad you’re going to try the Clif bars – let me know what you think!!

sweetsandsweats ~ Oh my gosh THANK YOU for that link!! Seriously, you just made my night! I don’t know if I’m daring enough either, but just knowing that it’s possible is comforting!

Carmen ~ Hehe, hope you liked the experiment! Not nearly as creative as you, though!

Mark ~ GOOD! I’m so glad you liked it 🙂

Sharon ~ What did you “think” of the thinkprotein bars?

blueberryhil ~ Wish I could ship some Cosi bread your way – too bad it would probably harden or something in transit 🙁

Em ~ Still don’t want to get out of bed…

iameatingtolive ~ Love the Garfield quote – it describes my life exactly, haha! Thanks for checking out my blog – I’ll look at yours right now!
