My dog ate my homework!

You know that timeless excuse about that dog/pet eating the math assignment or class project? Well, you thought it was just an excuse…until it actually happens to you! In this case…

My camera ate my pictures!

I wish I was joking. Especially after all of your sweet, sweet comments last night. Which, by the way…

THANK YOU! Those comments completely brightened my night and made me so thankful to be a part of this lovely blogging community. I can’t get over how wonderful it is to know all of you! THANKS AGAIN!

Ok, so about those pictures. Or lack thereof, I guess. I will tell you the whole story.

Sometimes when I plug my camera into my computer, it takes on a mind of its own and starts beeping at me! That’s when I know I’m in trouble – so I have to pull the cord out as fast as possible to salvage the pictures that haven’t been downloaded yet. Everything that HAS been downloaded becomes completely corrupt and unusable. Last night, I made the mistake of walking away from the computer while they were downloading, so I didn’t hear the beeping until most of my pictures had already turned corrupt. Ugh! Does anyone have experience with this problem and know how to fix it?

The GOOD news is, I did manage to save a few of my key pictures and “recreate” some others.

So instead of a full day of meals, I’m going to try something different for the Tuesday recap. A look at the day’s new foods! To review: Lemon Bar LARABAR, Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato Soup and, most deliciously, STARBUCKS VIVANNO!

1) Lemon Bar LARABAR

From the LARABAR site:

“Tart and tangy. Made with dates, cashews, almonds and real lemon, this bar simply bursts with flavor. Lemon is also full of magnesium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, copper, zinc, iron and manganese. Its citric acid is nature’s best source of Vitamin C – the nutrient that optimizes the body’s balance of iron consumption, thereby supporting the health of red blood cells and boosting immunity. Eat well…be well.”

I’m definitely on a citrus kick lately. Ever since I had that guacamole, I’ve loved anything and everything orange, lemon and lime. So it should come as no surprise that I thought this bar lived up to its description. It was full of flavor tart but at the same time sweet, with real pieces of nut for some crunch. I’m really glad I came across these new flavors because I had really counted LARABAR out for awhile. These bars certainly boast healthy ingredients, so it’s nice to know I have another quality bar to add to the list! However, as I have said before – the one thing I don’t like is how little you get out of the bar size-wise. I am and will always be a volume eater – more for less!

2) Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato Soup

The people over at Pacific Natural Foods have done it again! This soup was another winner. It came in a mini-box again, so I was able to enjoy it in multiple servings all afternoon.

I put it in a mug again;) I liked how this soup had a little more to it than the plain tomato. I could definitely taste the roasted red peppers throughout – and the double serving was extra filling!

The one thing I realized after I ate this one: I’m consuming WAY too much sodium in one sitting! I didn’t even think about that at first – more than 1400mg! Er – no thanks! Luckily, I found that they have some lower sodium options available. I will definitely be picking up those instead next time!

3) STARBUCKS VIVANNO!

I decided to treat myself by trying out this new drink from Starbucks yesterday. The Vivanno is their new “nourishing” shake/smoothie. I tried out the Banana Chocolate flavor, which is made with a whole banana, bittersweet cocoa powder, whey protein powder, milk and ice. It boasts pretty good nutritional information: 270 calories, 5g fat, 44g carbohydrates, 6g fiber and 21g protein!

As far as taste goes, this drink is definitely designed for people who enjoy protein shakes. It is NOT your typical frappucino – it has a much more gritty nature to it and you can definitely taste the protein powder throughout. I am a person who does enjoy this kind of shake, so I really liked it and will definitely be using up my gift cards on it:) You can also ask for a shot of espresso, or try out the other flavor, Orange Mango Banana.

So there ya have it – three outstanding new foods. I will be much more on top of my camera situation today, so expect posts to return to normal. THANKS AGAIN for all of your nice comments!

I <3 food blogs 🙂

  1. No worries about no photographs – your posts are still enjoyable, Jenn!!

Speaking of guacamole, I discovered a new favorite combination (just yesterday!) that I thought I’d share with you: sweet potatoes & guacamole. HEAVENLY. Try it!! :0)

  2. i hope your computer is nicer to your camera today!!!
I’M SO STOKED that you tried the vivanno and liked it!! today i might have to do it, it sounds perfect. it might be the first time i order a drink as is, instead of having to alter everything about it:)
    have a wonderful day!

  3. My Starbucks gave away coupons for a free Vivanno, but i haven’t used it yet. Actually these coupons were just set out on the counter and I just thought it was an ad for the new drink, so I just took one. I wish I new it was a coupon for a free one I would have taken a couple coupons!!

  4. You may laugh at me, but my dog once ate an entire law school text book. I had to buy a new one at the cost of $150. Then my other dog at an entire 1918 edition book checked out from the school library. Darn thing cost me $100. So that is twice my dogs ate my homework. Oh yeah, and once my cat peed on my homework.

  5. Hehehe… that dog of yours… tsk tsk
Despite that I still loved the post 🙂

That soup sounds amazing, and maybe the extra sodium will get you to drink more water which is always good, plus it doesn’t seem like you get a ton elsewhere so it’s alright (I think at least 🙂 ).

  6. So sorry your pictures were eaten! 🙁

I may have to try that Sbucks smoothie thang. Looks interestinggggggg.

    Have a wonderful day BendA!

  7. That’s too bad about your camera! And incredibly weird that it does that… yikes!

I’m totally intrigued by the fact that Starbucks makes protein shakes now! I’ll have to see if that’s an item that Canadian Starbucks carry because I definitely think i’ll need to give that a try someday.

  8. i’ve had that soup before and i love it! the roasted red pepper definitely does give it a little something. i have to look for those mini boxes though, i always end up having a serving or two from the big ones and then forgetting about it in the fridge and usually have to throw the rest out.

On the subject of mini-boxes though, I found the BEST thing at WF last time I was there, but have yet to use/post about it. Just for you though, I’ll share my secret. Individual-sized (1 cup) boxes of chicken stock! I know that I always, always throw out chicken stock because I only need 1/2-1 cup at a time and then end up not needing more before it goes bad. I guess I could just try planning better, but this just seemed like a better option. I haven’t tried them yet so I don’t know how they taste, but I imagine that they’re great and the concept is genious!

  9. Camera ate your pictures?! That’s scary, Jenn! Maybe you should call the company and let them know… I mean, what if tomorrow your camera eats your pants and then on Friday your camera eats Bobby!!

  10. Lemon and Key Lime Larabars are awesome! Today I tried banana cookie flavor for the first time…not quite as good (in my opinion) as the other two, but still yummy! I also enjoy cherry pie–check it out. Also, you mentioned being disappointed with the size of the bars, but I noticed that yours are 1 oz and the regular size bars are 1.8 oz (at least at the stores in my neck of the woods). Oh, and I just found Clifbar nectar…very much like Larabars in terms of texture. You might want to give them a try.

  11. Foodie ~ Thank you! 🙂

VeggieGirl ~ Sweet potatoes + guac? What a great idea! I will definitely give it a try next time I buy guac at the store – thank you!

Fitzalan ~ Definitely – let me know what you think!

Fitnessista ~ That is definitely why I liked the Vivanno so much – no special requests needed!

Aimee ~ Ooh that’s so cool that you got a coupon – I need to get my hands on one of those!

    lexi ~ Thanks!

totaltransformation ~ Yikes! Those are three crazy stories. People think it’s just an excuse – but when it happens to you, it takes on a whole new meaning!

All Vegged Out ~ The sodium definitely gets me drinking more water!

Mark ~ It definitely was 🙂

Em ~ You should try Vivanno, and do a product review to let us know what you think!

Kristie ~ I hope they go to Canada too – you’ll have to let me know what you think!

Sarah ~ This is such a great tip – thank you! I always tend to do that with those big boxes of soup, so I will definitely be on the lookout for the smaller versions next time I’m at Whole Foods! 🙂

Julz ~ Hahaha, thank you for making me laugh 😉

Lisa ~ Thanks for the tip on the banana cookie and cherry pie flavors. The reason the bars are 1 oz are because I actually got them as a sample, but you’re right – now that I know I like them I think it might be time to go for the real thing! And I will pick up Clif nectar bars, too – I think I tried one a long time ago and liked it, so it’s time to bring them back!
