Bender’s Blenders: Berry Classy!

by Jenn (eating bender) on August 27, 2008

Happy Tuesday, everyone! Phew, it was another long one for me today! Who knew vacation at home could be so crazy?! However, I can always make time for a new Bender’s Blenders creation. This one came after my nighttime workout and drinking it was a welcome way to relax and settle down for the evening…while catching up on some blogs, of course!

Bender’s Blenders: Berry Classy

We’re keeping this smoothie classy – berry classy. It’s a delightfully refreshing nighttime (or anytime) treat that is best enjoyed by savoring every sip in a wine glass. Fresh flowers not included 😉 So sorry!

Ingredients (serves 1):

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened chocolate almond milk
  • 1 tbsp. soy protein powder (I used Whole Nectar)
  • 1 medium ripe banana
  • 1/4 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/8 cup fresh blackberries
  • 1/8 cup fresh raspberries
  • Foam topping (optional)

Combine ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a wine glass and top with cappuccino foam if desired. Drink while catching up on your favorite blogs 😉 and looking extremely classy. Better yet – looking berry classy.

I wasn’t sure what I would think of the addition of the unsweetened chocolate almond milk with the fresh and frozen fruit. It tasted a little different than your average fruit smoothie – a little creamier and a little less sweet. Overall, it was an interesting new combination and I would make it again. But of course, I had to bring in another taster to verify that it was good enough for the blog.

I think it’s clear from the expression on his face that we have one happy camper. The unintentional smoothie mustache was just a bonus 😉 Oh yeah, we have a new “Got Smoothie?” campaign in the works…stay tuned for that one – I can already tell it’s going to be in magazines everywhere!

Jenn, that photo of the flowers and smoothie is absolutely gorgeous!!

Smoothies are my favorite thing to drink besides water, so you can be sure I’ll be making this! I love that you poured the smoothie into a wine glass…and called it “berry” classy. That’s just awesome :)

And you know it must be good when you get a smoothie mustache as a result of drinking it 😉

Foodie (Fab and Delicious Food) ~ Thanks so much! And yes, the smoothie mustache is key!

HangryPants ~ Haha, I’m glad you’re with me on that. And Brother Bender is the best name ever! :) Sorry you couldn’t find the foam at Whole Foods, though. I don’t think it’s at mine back in Chicago, either.

How is that protein powder that you buy? Maybe you can do a review on it! Love the presentation of the smoothie

Christie ~
I will definitely keep that in mind for a future review! But to give you the short answer, I really liked it – I couldn’t even tell that it was in the smoothie! It left no chalky aftertaste whatsoever, and the nutritional info. is pretty good.

15 Nicole August 27, 2008 at 8:34 am

It was the perfect time for me to see your smoothie review and recipe! I am getting bored with eating mashed bananas and applesauce ALL DAY LONG! Thanks, lady!

23 Kristie August 27, 2008 at 5:45 pm

I have yet to find that darn unsweetened chocolate almond milk in stores. They probably don’t carry it around here… although I hope it’s only a matter of time, it’s only been recently that I’ve been able to find the unsweetened vanilla, so hopefully that one will be next!

Loving the smoothie mustache :)

Kristie ~ Darn, I wish that the chocolate would show up in your stores – why can’t every store carry what we want them to carry? It certainly would make food blogging easier if everyone had access to the same good stuff 😉

24 HangryPants August 28, 2008 at 5:09 am

Alright, I will be patient with the foam. :)

HangryPants ~ Haha, you are stronger than I.
