Costco Stole My Heart

More on that in a bit!

Bobby and I just finished watching another disc from the second season of Lost. It’s getting good! There was a lull there for a while, but now it’s back 🙂 I don’t think we’ll be caught up in time for this season on TV, but I’d actually rather watch it on DVD – I know, I’m an advertiser’s nightmare.

So today I took notice of the times that I ate everything – you’ll see why later!

BREAKFAST

8:00 am: I was running a wee bit late this morning with taking my bro to school, so I just had time to grab a mug of Coffee Cocoa before I was out the door.

10:30 am: By the time I got back, I was pretty darn hungry. So I made myself a very filling breakfast!

Talk about filling – 1 cup of Fage has 20g of protein! I paired that with a crumbled blueberry ZBaR and a 90-calorie pack of Barney Butter. Once I finished this, I was stuffed! It was truly delicious though – I think I’ve found the winning combination of tart and sweet.

1:30 pm: I didn’t get hungry again for a good 3 hours and still wasn’t feeling the need for a full meal, so I snacked on the next best thing to heaven – a pluot!

I love the background 🙂 They’re really starting to bloom!

LUNCH

2:00 pm: I was ready for something substantial after taking a brief walk with Bobby. Yeah, not that long of a walk, but enough to get me off my butt and burn some energy 😉 I started out with some Alexia sweet potato fries and ketchup.

I was so psyched when I saw these in our freezer! I’ve had them once before but forgot how good they are! These and other frozen veggies are going to be mainstays in my freezer back at school this year.

I also had 1/2 cup of cottage cheese – I really miss the whipped version that I get back in Chicago because the texture of regular cottage cheese is a little off for me. It has so much more liquid!

And to wrap off lunch, I made myself a blueraspberry creme, which sounds fancy but really is just blueberries, raspberries and whipped cream in a cup 😉 It sure was tasty, though!

After lunch, Bobby and I went to go pick up the bromeister from school. On the way home, we stopped at Costco, which is when it decided to steal my heart. I’m ok with it though, because lookie what I got in return!

3:45 pm: Imagine how utterly thrilled I was to see they were handing out WHOLE ZBARS as samples! I mean, where else but Costco would you find that?! Honestly, I wasn’t very hungry AT ALL, but I decided it was worth it for this unique treat and I picked out the Chocolate Chip for a nice snack 😉 Apparently there are variety packs of Chocolate Brownie, Chocolate Chip and Peanut Butter – 24 for $10! That’s the cheapest I’ve found anywhere – and I thought I was gettin’ lucky with 49 cents at my Whole Foods! If only I liked the PB flavor, I’d stock up for life. Oh well. Maybe someday they will have brownie, chocolate chip and blueberry in a box.

They also were handing out samples of the Twisted Fruit. I split a Mixed Berry with my bro. These are also really yummy – they taste like licorice, if licorice was made with real fruit. In other words, it’s got a more natural taste to it, but the sweetness is perfect when you feel like candy – and I feel like candy a lot. I think I may need to pick some of these up when I get back to school, too!

So yeah, after a rushed morning that forced me to hold off on breakfast, I ate several meals and snacks at once! I don’t really like it when I eat breakfast and lunch so close together – spacing out my meals is key to making me feel like I had a well-rounded day of eating without getting too stuffed, so I will have to make sure I pay better attention to that.

DINNER

6:30 pm: We ate dinner while watching the Packers kick the Vikings arses! Now, granted I did live in Minnesota for most of my life, but I’m a diehard Packers fan because of my dad. I know some of you Minnesotans may want to kick MY arse for saying that 😉 But I pledge my allegiance and they did awesome tonight, even without my buddy Brett.

Ok, enough football talk! We brought home some Eddie Chan’s, a local Asian bistro that really knows how to serve great food that is not too salty and not too saucy.

I got the lemon pepper shrimp. Most of what you see with the mountain of food is green lettuce and cabbage 🙂 I love this dish because it’s full of veggies like red and green peppers, and the shrimp is lightly coated with a lemon pepper marinade. I never feel too full when I’m done eating it. I had it over a small plate – probably 1/4 cup – of brown rice.

And of course no Asian takeout would be complete without a fortune cookie!

Think this will happen? 😉 Gosh, I hope so!

After dinner I hit up the gym for a cardio and leg workout. I did 20 minutes on the Stairmaster followed by some serious lunges and squats (5 different kinds of each!) and then a quick 5-minute sprint on the treadmill. It felt great to stretch my legs, since we pretty much vegged out – in the metaphorical sense, hehe – all day!

9:00 pm: I wasn’t too hungry when I got back, but after I showered and got into my jammies I split a Washington apple with my ma and Bobby. It was very refreshing!

Huh. It was very interesting to see how everything worked out time-wise today. I usually do a much better job with spacing everything out so I’m never too hungry and never too full. I guess that’s what waking up late will do to ya – it throws off the rest of the day! Does anybody else have that problem? If so, how do you compensate?

I hope you all have a great Tuesday! 🙂

  1. You’re already a leader…in the blog community! 😀
    Corny but totally true!
I’m ready to try those sweet potato fries.
What a yummy day. I love your breakfast!

  2. Man…Erin beat me to it! I agree with her that your are a leader in the blog community. I think everyone loves your blog and looks to it for inspiration.

That lemon shrimp dish looks so tasty! Yeah for free samples!

  3. the chinese food looks SO good. i hate most chinese food ….particularly because of the oil and salt.. but if it is light and tasty- YUM YUM.

go costco for whole z bars. that IS pretty crazy! was it crowded?!

  4. My parents and I are OBSESSED with ‘Lost’ – but we too are behind on the episodes (only 3 behind though!), since it’s hard to watch them when they sir (due to our busy schedules). Glad that you and Bobby enjoy the show as well!! 🙂

That breakfast looks soooo luscious!! Food porn alert!! 😉

Love the gorgeous flowers behind the equally-gorgeous pluot!!

SWEET POTATOES!!! **swoons** I just realized that I haven’t eaten a sweet potato in a month… how sad is that?!?!?!

Great deal on the z-bars – hooray for Costco!!

Ahh, the quintessential fortune cookie – it always completes an Asian meal 🙂

Jenn, as Erin and Megan stated above, you are a true leader in the blogging world, and an inspiration – hooray!

    WASHINGTON APPLE!! Yum.

Yes, when I wake up later, it definitely makes it harder for me to eat enough (and you KNOW this is a huge problem, since I rarely have an appetite as it is!!) – so, I try NOT to sleep in on my “one-day-off-from-dance,” because it messes up eating and everything. Haha, crazy, I know 😉

  5. hahah i too enjoy watching shows on DVD. i thougth the second (and third) season of lost was so good, but everyone who watched it on TV complained about how slow it was. it’s just better to watch the eppys all back to back!

  6. You are a leader in the blogging community, at least I think so!

Looks like you had a great day of food, I am jealous that your asian take put place has brown rice!

  7. That is really some of the least oily and freshest looking Asian take-out food I’ve seen in a while! It looks home cooked, I’m impressed.

I have GOT to get to Costco and get some bars!!!

When I wake up late, everything is so out of whack! I find myself eating breakfast and lunch too close together and I get too full also.

Ps, VeggieGirl- no sweet potatoes for a month!? As the self-proclaimed sweet potato(e) queen, I’m going to have to ask you to fix that!

  8. In the picture of the Twisted Fruit, in the background… the greenish boxes on the right… Those are SO good. They’re freeze dried fruit. I work at Costco and I stock up on those all the time. We don’t carry Z-Bars at my location, only regular Clif bars… Sigh.

  9. Sam’s club hasn’t had the z-bars yet and score for a whole bar, Sam’s Club would have cut that thing in 5 pieces (their samples are so small usually).

Such a great fortune…I’m sure you will make that come true!

  10. oh man, i wish i belonged to costco! except maybe not—i feel like it would be even more dangerous to me than Whole Foods—WHOLE CLIF Z samples! wow!

i definitely know what you mean about waking up late and having your whole day thrown off–I had this problem a lot over the summer with work (not necessarily waking up late but having to eat a meal a lot earlier or later than I prefer to). I try to just listen to my body and eat when it’s actually hungry, even if it means a full lunch at 3 and not having dinner until later also. Of course this is easier said than done!

I also find that without fail, if I don’t eat at least a little something soon after waking up, I’m snacky ALL DAY LONG. Since realizing this I am not a HUGE believer in the importance of a pre-workout snack if exercising first thing—it’s seriously been a lifesaver.

Mmmmm berries + cream. My favorite : )

  11. I love Lost – even when it gets frustrating, I just love it even more.

Costco is a great place. So interesting.

Keep that fortune! I have one of favorites in my wallet that says, “Who is without fault any way.”

  12. I’m in total agreement with Sarah – I am more trying to listen to my body and eat when I’m hungry (which seems to be what you did today). And I am also the same way about when I wake up – once I have oatmeal, I’m totally golden to tackle the day in terms of snacks. I also only bring what I need to work and don’t keep anything in my desk so I don’t mindlessly snack, you know?

PS: I am starting to say this every day, but it’s true. Your photos: to-die-for.

  13. I agree w/ everyone else you; you are already def a leader in the blogging community! yippee!!

and WHOLE zbars as samples! crazy! i need to get my butt to cosco…maybe find another boy…hahahahhaa!

and i know what you mean about waking up late, though late for me is like, 8am instead of 5.30am…but usually i’ll just try to eat something asap after i get up so that it doesn’t throw off my other meals too much!

  14. oh my, i wish we had a costco around here!! that is AWESOME about the free samples and great prices 🙂

never seen whipped cottage cheese, but i’ll have to snag it the first time i do! i actually had those fries in my hands yesterday at the store. but then i put them back. darn it.

when i wake up i try to have a smaller breakfast, but that doesn’t always work if ‘m hungry… sometimes i get away with a smaller lunch if it’s too close, but I do feel off as well. i like routine…

  15. I love your picture of the fage with blueberry z-bar. It looks like a white fluffy cloud with a z-bar resting lazily. Z-BAR heaven.. haha.

I agree that you are already a blogging community leader and awesome at it as well!

  16. Your breakfast looks great…What a good idea to put in the barney butter and zbar!

I LOVE Lost too…can’t wait for the next season to start.

  17. I have never seen lost..heard it is good! As always the food looks great! Now…. about those Packers beating my Vikings! The refs cheat! Yep! I am a sore loser :).

  18. i loooove the peanut butter zbars
so you go ahead and get the box
and ill eat those ones for you. ;]

  19. Your fortune was very accurate already! And I LOVE that you LOVE the Packers too! Go Pack Go 🙂

  20. I LOVE that breakfast! It looks like a decadent dessert! How incredibly depressing for me though that I can’t buy ONE of the items that went into your breakfast. Boooo.

AND I LOVE Costco! Love Love love. I haven’t been in ages though! I need to get a membership really really badly. But I don’t know if it’s worth it because our nearest Costco isn’t that near… but heck, it’s COSTCO. I should just go get one asap.

  21. chinese food that includes shrimp is one of my all time loves. i had prawns for dinner tonight too so i’m happy 🙂 i love the look of your fage with the zbar and barney butter!! i would eat that in a heartbeat! i hope i’m right in guessing that bobby is our beau?

  22. Love all your food for the day.. and when I wake up late I never get enough food in because it pushes everything off!

I got the zbar variety pack from costco and i keep it in my care In Case of Emergency, cause I would never want to be witout food hahah.

  23. haha- when not in training, I eat just like you. A little bit allll day long 🙂 That is so exciting that costco has the big boxes of z bars! I must go there and get them! Your dinner looks so super yummy!

  24. I’ve never been to a Costco, but I would love them too if they gave me Zbars! (As you’ve seen on my blog, they’ve become an obsession!)

  25. I didn’t know they sold sweet potato fries. I recommend you try baking them yourself, they are SUPER easy and you can put whatever herbs and spices on them that you want. Plus, sweet potatoes are SO cheap!

  26. as far as trying to spread food out so i’m not too hungry or too full, i have problems depending on whether i work that day or not. i have a part time job that requires i get up at 5am on the days i work. this means i have breakfast around 5:30, morning snack between 8-9am, and lunch between 11a-12p. i consume more food these days because i’m awake for more hours and therefore get hungrier since i start eating so early in the morning. i do fine the days i don’t work (where i wake up between 9a-noon, lol).
