Never have I ever…

by Jenn (eating bender) on September 26, 2008

Wanted the weekend to be here more than I do now!

Has anyone ever played that “Never have I ever…” game? It reminds me of the sleepover days during middle school with late night rounds of Truth or Dare :) Hehe, that’s how I got my first kiss! Romantic, no?

So it’s probably a bit of an exaggeration to say that my week has been THE longest ever, but it will definitely go down as ONE of the longest. It’s not that I had completely grueling tasks – although some might say that’s true when it comes to applying for jobs – it’s just that everything I DID have to accomplish this weekend happened to be jam-packed into five days, without much room to deviate from the plan. In other words, bring on the weekend!

In the interest of keeping it, er, interesting, I wanted to share with you a new snack and meal idea from Thursday!

I’m a big fan of the occasional handful of nuts to tide me over until dinner is ready. But I don’t end up buying nuts as often as I should considering how much I like them. Then I found these on sale

I’ve always been a fan of Blue Diamond almonds. I had seen these new flavors in the store but only got around to picking one of them up last weekend. I really like how these new containers measure out each ounce for you. Otherwise, it can be pretty hard to decipher how many almonds are in one serving.

The Cinnamon Brown Sugar flavor is awesome. It’s not overly sweet, but definitely adds a sugar kick to the regular, less flavorful almond. These completely satisfied my sweet tooth and my hunger while I made dinner on Thursday night.

Although I’ve had a hectic week, I feel very proud of the fact that I’ve been able to squeeze in some well-balanced meals. Thursday night’s dinner was one such occasion. I cooked microwaved the entire meal in roughly 8 minutes and was ready to watch the season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy with a huge bowl of flavor in tow.

Yum-o! I heated up a bag of Birds Eye Steamfresh – the Asian Medley – and stirred in about 1 tbsp. of teriyaki sauce to give it a bit more flavor. Then came time to add the next ingredient – microwaveable tilapia! I know it sounds funny, but I found these packets of microwaveable tilapia in the freezer section at my grocery store over the weekend. They are stuffed with shrimp and herb seasoning and have 130 calories per bag. Not bad for pre-packaged goods, which can sometimes contain an absolutely unmanageable ingredient list! The brand is Poseidon’s Choice and you can see the nutritional information here.

Everything in this bowl was completely moist and full of flavor. I microwaved the veggies for 4 minutes and the tilapia for 3 minutes – I can always handle an 8-minute meal!!

Tomorrow I will post a recap of Friday, which will include my entry for the Blogger Secret Ingredient!! I’m super pumped about it because it was kind of random but turned out great!

How has everyone’s Friday been going? Any big plans for the weekend?

“See” you again soon!

Ooo I love the microwaveable tilapia idea! I’ll have to go check it out. Tilapia is one of my favorite fish anyway :)

P.S. Yes I have facebook, Yes I would love to friend you, BUT I have a privacy setting so you won’t be able to search for me. Are you friends with Jenna? or Kath? or Tina? or Veggiegirl? Haha, I obviously like my bloggers. Anyway, I’m already friends with them so just look for Danielle Alvarez and request away. I’m ready to accept 😉

LOL yup, I’ve played that game! And I miss truth or dare! Too bad college kids think it’s too childish to play :o/

I have a party to go to on Saturday… and on Sunday I’m making cupcakes!!! Yay :o) (It’s for my little neighbor… she wants Disney-themed cupcakes. I’m so excited). But my weekend definitely does NOT include homework (well, I guess I’ll have to do it sometime… Boo).

Happy Friday!

Ugh, TELL me about it – you’re definitely NOT exaggerating about this past week being the longest week, ever. BRING ON THE FREAKING WEEKEND ALREADY!!!!

I remember that “Never have I ever…” game!! Haha, how sweet about your first kiss!! Love it :-)

Bird’s Eye Steamfresh vegetables = life-saver, lemme tell ya!! A gift from heaven.

Looking forward to seeing your contribution for this week’s Blogger Secret Ingredient Challenge!! I know it’ll be absolutely sensational :-)

I go on these community service retreat with my school and we totally play “never have I ever…” it’s really fun although sometimes you do learn more than you want to about other people…hahah

I’m going to Whole Foods and a Farm Harvest Festival (I hope) and a partayyy.

Great meal idea! Have a great and enjoyable weekend!

mmm those almonds look AMAZING! I love almonds and I love cinnamon and I love sugar so I’m sure this would be a great choice for me!

I’ll have to be on the lookout for that microwaveable tilapia. I’ve become really dependent on quick and easy food this semester so this looks like it’s right up my alley!

You’re right—this weekend could not come soon enough! I feel like it’s going to be like that every week though seeing as senior year is so busy and stressful. Hopefully you get to unwind a little bit and don’t have too much work to do!

Definitely played “never have I ever” in college lots of times! Fun drinking game! Those nuts look awesome!

13 Megan September 26, 2008 at 8:13 pm

The nuts looks like they are a perfect blend of sweet and salty.

With only 8 minutes, you sure did make an amazing meal.

14 Kristie September 26, 2008 at 9:06 pm

Haha I don’t think I ever played that game. I never even liked truth or dare to be honest. I was such a lame-o. I was too private to tell my secrets and too chicken to do any dares. I needed to brave up!

Big bowls of food are awesome. Your dinner bowl looks GREAT. I want to find stuffed microwaveable fish, that sounds really good!

Hope you have an awesome weekend, especially to make up for your loooong week!

HA! never have I ever. hilarious.

Love the Tilapia dish! Microwave Meal = sure winner.

I’ve heard those Blue Diamond nuts are pretty yummy…I remember Linds over at Love of Oats raved about them. If I didn’t have a gillion nuts in my pantry, I’d buy some to try.

I love the Bird’s Eye products. And the Green Giant broccoli. Frozen fruits and veg are so great to have on hand!
Those almonds really are yummy! I just tried the vanilla ones awhile ago and loved them, too.
I’ll be on the hunt for that tilapia. :) Glad your crazed week is over Jenn! It’s hard getting back into the swing of things, right?
This wknd I’m applying for a grant, reading, cleaning the house, working out, cooking, grading exams, and going to a BBQ! And I really need to pull some weeds. :) What about you?!

17 Christie September 27, 2008 at 9:20 am

The steam bags are great to have in a pinch and it makes a regular meal so much better and healtheir! Cant wait to see the recipe!

18 fitnessista September 27, 2008 at 11:11 am
