Whirlwind Weekend

Good morning and happy Monday, everyone! I appreciate your patience with me this weekend 🙂 As a pretty much daily blogger, it has become very difficult for me to be away from you for so long! But this whirlwind weekend made it pretty much mandatory. It was a lot of non-stop fun with Papa Bender and Lil’ E (my bro). And it was also just what I needed, since I get homesick pretty often!

The boys came into town on Friday afternoon, at which point we headed to the movie theater to check out Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. I love animated movies like this one because they are designed for kids but they have a lot of adult humor in them, too. And after reading Disney War over the summer (a great book, by the way), it’s fun to see a Dreamworks picture and watch Jeffrey Katzenberg make fun of Disney in subtle ways. I highly recommend this one!

After the movie, we made a pit stop at an outdoor store to pick up some gloves for my dad – trust me, he needed them this chilly weekend! While we were there, I stumbled upon some goodies that I have yet to see in the grocery stores near me.

Yay for the seasonal Clif bar flavors! I am pumped to try these out – particularly the gingerbread flavor. I will make sure to do a full review 🙂 I hope they show up in grocery stores soon, too.

The next morning was the big football game against Ohio State. Of course, no family visit would be complete without multiple trips to Walker Bros. On Saturday, I got the baked Mediterranean omelette.

Yes, it’s humongous. And double yes, I ate it all 😉 I needed that fuel for the chilly four hours of nothing-but-the-outdoors that were ahead of us. They bake their omelettes so they grow even bigger and fluffier – I have to try that sometime – and this one came with spinach, tomatoes, onions and feta. It was v. delicious.

The game didn’t go very well. All that time spent out in the cold…and for what?! Haha, but it was fun nonetheless, and just being able to spend some time with the boys of the family made it all worthwhile. Here are some pictures from the stands.

Me and my Mini Wildcat 🙂 He was all decked out and ready to cheer!

Me and Papa Bender! The resident celebrity chef on this blog!

Following the loss, my family and I headed up to Milwaukee to visit some extended family. It was fun to catch up and get a nice, homecooked family meal (we had veggie-filled chili).

The next morning, it was back to Walker Bros. for a final hurrah. This time, Bobby came along for the occasion.

Yeah, so I may not look my bestest and brightest on Sunday mornings.

This time around, I went with the BEST.OATMEAL.EVER. for breakfast. I am not kidding when I say that every time I go here I am always pleased with this choice.

cimg7106

Not only is the presentation gorgeous, but the actual food itself is pretty darn delicious 🙂 I really need to figure out how they get their oats to look like that! I’ve tried and tried to no avail.

cimg7107

I had my oats with sliced bananas, raisins and brown sugar. They definitely don’t skimp on the sliced bananas here – there had to be at least two small (or perhaps one giant) banana in that dish!

cimg7110

I also had some scrambled egg whites on the side, which I promptly topped with ketchup and pepper to add a nice kick. It was the perfect protein complement to an otherwise carb and fiber-filled meal.

The rest of the day was spent lounging around. We watched some of the Bears game until the boys had to head out for the airport. Once they left, it was time to get crackin’ on the massive pile of homework leftover from a weekend of not doing anything productive 😉 I think I’m about caught up, but I still have a little ways to go!

Lastly, I’ve been tagged by Jenny from This Winding Road – expect to hear some random facts about me in my next post 😉 Can you stand the excitement? I hope everyone has a fantastic Monday! I’ll be catching up on your weekends and blog posts slowly but surely!

Question: What was your favorite part of your weekend?

  6. Great pics!! You guys are adorable!

I just bought the gingerbread and pumpkin Clif bars at WF last night, but the cashier said that the pear flavor you bought is actually the best fall flavor.

Baking omelettes rocks! I usually start them in a skillet on the stove (maybe 4-5 minutes) and then stick it under the broiler for another 2 minutes or so to cook the top. Nigella Lawson has a good recipe for this (search “Spanish Tortilla” on foodnetwork.com).

  7. Looks like you had a ton of fun at the game, even though they lost! And you were in my neck of the woods on Saturday night!
