Chocolate Covered Spaghetti

No, not really! But I’m beginning to think it may as well have been!

Is it just me, or does sugar tolerance kick into overdrive this time of year? Every night I think, “There’s no way I could eat another piece of candy or chocolate tomorrow,” only to repeat the cycle the next day! I have a feeling that once this week is over, I’m going to cringe every time I see or hear the word “dessert” – ha, yeah right…

It started out innocent enough. After all of the feedback on the doubled up cereal from yesterday, I got a hankering for it again.

dscn0578

One of the most interesting tidbits I got from my last post was that many of you double up on servings with a lot of different foods and don’t get caught up in the “serving size” on the label. I hope to be able to apply your technique to some of the other foods I tend to snack on straight out of the box/jar – particularly cereal, candy and peanut butter – in the future. I think it will save a lot of time going back and forth between the table and the pantry 😉 Or so I hope!

dscn0581

And of course no morning meal would be complete without…

dscn0584

Except I’d like to think that I’m an expert at multi-tasking 😉 For example, I am currently blogging while watching Food Network.

Anywho, as the day went on it became apparent that I was in for a chocolate covered food fest. Mid-morning, the UPS man delivered these beauties.

dscn0586

You’ve never had a chocolate covered strawberry until you’ve had CCBerries. Oh. my. YUM. These are the best of the best – massive strawberries topped with a thick layer of chocolate. My mom gets them for friends and family every year, and always saves a dozen for us to enjoy.

dscn0589

So festive 🙂 There are berries for every occasion, so make sure to bookmark the website if you ever want to send someone an edible gift they are guaranteed to love. Of course, I had to eat one right way to make sure that the batch wasn’t bad or something…

dscn0590

Don’t worry, everything was fine! No need for them to resend them (although I wouldn’t object).

I ate the strawberry pretty close to lunch, so I just kept it simple. I had the heel (!!!!!) of Arnold Double Omega bread – review coming soon! – topped with roughly 1 oz. of that cranberry goat cheese.

dscn0596

I also finished up my first container of Trader Joe’s Greek yogurt – about a cup’s worth – and added 1/2 of a Chocolate Brownie Gnu Bar and 1 tsp. of maple syrup for another chocolate flavored sweet treat.

dscn0603

After lunch, I headed outside for an invigorating 3 mile run. Unfortunately, I stupidly neglected to wear a jacket and was freezing for the first half – not exactly good for my muscles. BUT when all was said and done, I worked up a nice sweat and felt great when it was over.

  • Distance: 3.2 miles
  • Terrain: Up and downhill
  • Time: 28 minutes

When I say up and downhill, I mean down the mountain, up the mountain! That’s one of the great things about Arizona 🙂 I think my time reflected that, too, and I was happy with it.

Once I got back, my mom informed me that it would still be a while before we ate dinner. Not wanting to ruin the chocolate streak I had going, I snacked on one of Sarah’s yummy brownies.

dscn0610

Eventually, we made a simple dinner of spaghetti with meaty tomato sauce. I added extra spices – a dry rub and garlic powder, to be exact – to the tomato sauce to give it extra flavor. It turned out a little spicy and a lot delicious. FINALLY, a meal that did not include chocolate!!

dscn0615

And to end the night on a reasonably healthy note, I made myself an assorted fruit bowl that included melon, blackberries, blueberries and strawberries. The most colorful part of my day, no doubt!

It’s hard to believe that tomorrow is Christmas Eve already! For those of you celebrating, I hope that it’s an enjoyable one.

I really liked reading your answers to the “sock question” yesterday! It’s so funny how something so random can generate such interesting responses 🙂 Here we go again, from this site.

What does your last text message say?

This one could be quite scandalous! However, mine was not. I just checked and it says, “Thanks I really appreciate it!” It’s from one of my best friends at school. How boring 😉

  1. Mmm mmm I’m assuming that’s Kashi GoLean? Loves it! Glad you eat it with a banana, really enhances the whole experience 🙂

What an awesome run! Way to take advantage of the homeland terrain, I’m impressed 🙂

Ohhh Jenn, so ironic that you should inquire as to my last text…tonight some drama went down at the bar, so nothing boring here:
“I’m so sorry Jenny, I really am. I totally own that I was a bad friend and should have been out there with you. Sincere apologies!”
haha that was after I was unable to enter a bar with friends tonight (damn being 5 months away from 21)…my day just did NOT go as I would have liked!

Oh well, tomorrow is Christmas EVE! I refuse to be negative, so have a great and amazing Christmas!!

  2. What a fun chocolate filled day! All your eats look fantastic!

Hmm..last text message “Oh! Hm…I’ll let you know later on?” It’s from a friend whom I’ve asked to eat Chinese food with me tomorrow! =]

Yay to Christmas Eve! And those strawberries look decadent!

  3. Jenny ~ That is definitely a winner of a text message – thanks for sharing the dirt 😉 I’m sorry that your day didn’t go well, though!! Just think how great it will be 5 months from now, though. I feel you on May birthdays!!

Olga ~ Nice! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  4. Chocolate covered strawberries – YUM! Once I made nutella stuffed strawberries and they were all kinds of deliciousness!

Last text: “tell me about it. i’m doing my best not too. i think its gonna miss me though so i’m alright.” Boring I know – it was from my friend who’s trying not to get sick over Christmas!

  5. I’m on sugar overload myself, I am hoping to stear clear of the sugar today.

My last text message says “OK”. How boring.

  6. umm, i think i hit the point last night of WAAAAYYYYY too much sugar. I don’t even want any for breakfast, so that’s a positive change 🙂

  7. I’m so like you when it comes to sugar and chocolate this time of year — it’s just irresisitable!

My last text says, “It snowed, what do you think?” It was Erin…trying to see if we should meet up for breakfast. 🙂

  8. Those strawberries look absolutely amazing!

My last text: “This Friday, my birthday, at Pete’s piano bar.” The funny thing is, I never figured out who sent it to me!

  9. My last text message was from AT & T – I never text!

I am totally with you on the no more sweats thing. Every night I say I am cookied out and then somehow, I manage to eat more cookies the next day!

Have a wonderful Christmas with your adorable family!

    Heather

  10. HELL YES FOR SUGARY TREATS!!! And Coffee Cocoa 🙂

My last text message was from my dad – it said, “Pleasant Dreams” (since I was going to sleep, haha 😀 ).

  11. I’ve never tried chocolate covered strawberries. Sounds like something I’ll have to accomplish very soon!
My last text says: “This is my number in case you do not have it. Always great to see you!” Ran into a friend of mine at work who I haven’t seen in a while.

  12. mmm chocolate covered strawberries! so yum. and your lunch bread looks amazing too!

my last test was “thanks, I’d love to!” in response to me inviting my best friend over for potato latkes and hanukkah celebrations on Friday.

  13. OMG….those strawberries look outrageous!! I’m extremely jealous!! 🙂

My last text message was from my sister in law letting me know that she can’t make the 2 hour drive down for our sleep over because of the nasty winter weather. Bummer…..but I will see her and the kids over the weekend! 🙂

  14. Merry day before christmas! I know what you mean about the holiday indulgences but as long as they’re worth it… I say it’s fine… and my word means a lot 😉 haha, enjoy! The strawberry and brownie look divine though so I’m sure you did!

As for my last text message: “Happy day before Christmas! I am missing you already… I am going to need to see you soon.” My bf 🙂 he’s a sap, and I love it.

  15. I think I should just try the idea of serving myself more then one serving rather then getting one serving and continue to go back to the cabinet for more. I am seriously the queen of creeping back to the kitchen for “one more handful” which turns into 3/4 trips back.

I also agree with the fact that every night I say “Ok, tomorrow I don’t want to eat any more cookies/caramel corn/apple bread/pie/chocolate covered espresso beans – then the treats are in front of me again and I’m all over them. oh well.. it’s Christmas!

My last text message – “OK” from my dad.

Merry Christmas eve an thanks for the sweet comment on my blog.

  16. I know what you mean…on Monday night I thought I had had my fill of Christmas cookies, but then on Tuesday I started all over again and ate one with breakfast! 🙂 Oh well, it’s Christmas so it’s okay.

I love your random questions. Last text message is from my dad and it says, “The novelty and wonder of snow has worn off with Mindy.” Mindy is my sister and she just moved from Chandler, AZ to Portland, OR.

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

  17. Sounds like a great run! And you enjoyed chocolate in many good ways!

teehee – I like the text message question 🙂 My last one was from my mom saying: “Yep and it was buy one get 1 half off. Pretty good deal.” She had just been to Victoria’s Secret!

  18. i feel you about the chocolate…but we know that we can’t stay away one day after another…and they say it’s good to have some everyday right? hahaha!

my last text message was interesting…i won’t disclose who, but it said, ‘Yeah, i’m juggling all three at the same time. and they all know about each other.” HAHAHAHAHA. oh boy…

    merry christmas eve!!!!

  19. You cracked me up with the sugar cycle … because I can totally relate! After posting a blog two days ago about my christmas cookie overload, I went back for JUST ONE cookie yesterday … and ended up with a plateful, less than 24 hours after I vowed to never eat another cookie again!

Thanks, as always, for your posts … they make my day.

  20. Looks like you’re having a good Christmas so far – I know what you mean about everything feeling like it’s covered in chocolate. Cookies are following me, I swear!

My last text message says “Ok” and to make things worse, it’s from boyfriend Bill (who was sitting a few feet away from me). Wow…

  21. Those strawberries! OMG! They look amazing!

I actually can’t find my phone so I have no clue what my last text says! I wish I knew though, I feel kind of lost without my phone..

Your food all looks great as per usual 😀

  22. mmmmmmmmm pass me a strawberry please 🙂

i have been doing the same thing! i feel like i am sweeted out one night and then the next day it starts all over again haha…

  23. Hahaha I love that question too! Oh god, mine is boring too. It says “Thanks! Glad you like it!” From my sister-in-law regarding her Christas picture. 😉
I, for one, am VERY impressed with your ability to have just one or two sweet things here and there! It looks like you’re doing great!

  24. OMG those strawberries look AMAZING and are HUGE! YUM

“Cool well would u have room for one more?” My Friend Shannan was making plans with me for New Years! 🙂

  25. I totally know what you mean about the increased sugar tolerance – I crave it like air! It’s crazy, but hey, it’s the holidays.

I’ve got a gym question for you – how often do you weight-lift? I’ve been going to work out more often than usual (on purpose) but my mom says it’s not smart to lift weights (I do arms, legs, & abs all in the same day) every day.

  26. That was very thoughtful of you to taste test the strawberries. Wouldn’t want any family members getting sick from a bad berry 🙂

Love all your chocolate and non-chocolate eats. I served the cranberry goat cheese last night, and it was a huge hit. Sadly, there was none left for me to snack on today, but I’m glad my friends enjoyed it!

These random questions are so fun. Let’s see, my last text message says, “OK”. How boring 🙂

  27. chocolate spaghetti – hmmm – you could be onto something! 🙂

    HAVE A WONDERFUL XMAS EVE!

  29. All of that chocolate looks so good! 🙂

My last text said “What time do you get off?” My friend wanted to know when to call me for a real conversation.

  30. Your title made me all excited for a while there! XD
Those chocolates are beautiful! The strawberries underneath makes them even better!
The last text message I received was “I don’t care about your damn oatmeal” 😀

  31. Hmmm my last text message is from a guy friend, wishing me a happy birthday: “Happy bday…try not to get too drunk tonight!” Obviously, he was being facetious:)

  32. Hmmmm…last text message said something like “Merry Christmas! Your baking was awesome”. It was from a friend who I had given a package of baking to 🙂
