Into the Rush

The to-do list never ends! It’s been another nonstop day and right now it’s 10:30 pm and I am just sitting down to breathe (and blog, since that winds me down). I apologize for being so absent on your blogs. Please know that I am reading and catching up and that I will comment as soon as I can. Thanks for your patience in the meantime 🙂 Also, thank you for your comments on my publishing job. I will give you some more details, since you asked!

Basically, I’m working for a company that creates the cooking magazines for big name companies. I don’t want to say names because I’m trying to keep a level of anonymity, so just imagine the magazines you see on the shelves for the big soup or chocolate companies and you’ll be headed in the right direction. As an editorial assistant, it’s my job to make sure that the recipes are correct, that there are no typos in the actual text of the magazine, and that the pictures match. I also do some work with a recipe database. It’s like extending the food blog world into a job, which means I am looking at pictures of food almost 24/7…sheesh! But it’s a great experience.

And with that long-winded explanation, here are my eats for today!

dscn1081

I broke out another JamFrakas bar before going to the gym this morning. This one was the Chocolate Chip Cosmocrisp, and I must say I wasn’t all that impressed. It felt like I was just eating it for the sake of eating it (since my stomach was grumbling), and I couldn’t really taste anything special about it other than the crunchy bits. Sorry, JamFrakas!

dscn1082

I’m still waiting on some of my P90X equipment to arrive, so I am at the gym for at least another week. This morning I did a 40 minute Elliptical Intervals workout and then came home and did ab work with Cindy Whitmarsh on ExerciseTV. She’s killer! After the sweat session I needed a nice big breakfast!

dscn1083

Whipped banana oatmeal to the rescue! It has been far too long since I had one of these delicious bowls. I forgot how good it tastes! Here we have 1/2 cup old fashioned oats, 3/4 cup water, 1/4 cup unsweetened chocolate almond milk, 1 tbsp. ground flax and 1/2 a whipped banana. It was all topped with a spoonful of crunchy Barney Butter, which Heather graciously provided at our Blogger Meet Up last week! Thanks, girl!

dscn1085

There was also a little Coffee Cocoa action on the side. By the way, I’d like to give a big shout out to Marisa, who recently tried my recipe. She made my day!

dscn1090

I spent the rest of my morning and early afternoon in class. I think it’s going to be another exciting quarter. I am enjoying the fact that senior year = total control over my class schedule because I can pick out the most interesting topics and actually get in for once!

Lunch had to be grab ‘n’ go again today because I had to continue working on my submission for a student Emmy award. I decided it would be a good day to break out a YouBar.

dscn1094

I chose the Honey Cashew because it sounded the most intriguing. The ingredient list is as follows: Cashew Butter, Honey, Whey Protein, Nutty Rice Cereal, Organic Honey.

dscn1096

It was slightly bigger than what you see pictured because I snagged a bite of it during class. Wow, this bar was amazing!! It was like eating cashew butter in solid form – nut butter on a stick, anyone? They should totally invent that (although I call patent rights)! But in the meantime, this bar was a great substitute. I can’t wait to try the other flavors!

I also had another turkey sandwich on an Arnold thin. But this time I added roughly 2 tbsp. of Sabra Garlic Hummus, which of course made it even better.

dscn1098

I spent the rest of the afternoon working on Emmy stuff and before I knew it, dinnertime was upon me. I actually have a class at night this quarter, too, so I had to make sure I grabbed something so that my stomach wouldn’t grumble the whole time! I started with 2 microwaved egg whites topped with 1/4 cup Mexican cheese blend and 1 tbsp. salsa.

dscn1100

As a sweet note to complement the savory, I had a rice pudding cup topped with 1/2 cup worth of Enjoy Life Cranapple Crunch Granola. By the way, K, I did indeed try the Cinnamon Crunch. It does remind me of an oatmeal cookie!

dscn1101

And then I brought one of these to class with me. The picture says it all.

dscn1103

Yum. I also snagged another one once I got back from class.

Random Question

Do you talk with your hands?

I definitely have been known to gesture with my hands on occasion. Actually, I do it all the time. I think it’s a product of being a broadcast journalism major 😉

  1. I love these random questions! Yes, I certainly talk with my hands and I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I am from the Middle East. Europeans find it WEIRD!

  2. I love the way the Barney Butter has melted and become one with your bowl of oats – looks so velvety and awesome.

And that YouBar sounds excellent – I’m a huge cashew fan, so it would be right up my alley.

  3. Oooh definitely yes to the hand-talk question!

Where are you finding the JamFrakas? I can’t seem to find them in Cali. 🙁

And, one more question: don’t the egg-whites smell up the house? Or is that just the yolk that gets smelly? I guess I don’t know my chemistry very well lol.

  4. I would so buy nut butter on a stick. Brilliant idea! 🙂

I’ve been meaning to tell you how excited I am about your P90X Christmas gift. I meant to ask you about it at dinner last week. I’m looking forward to some posts about your new workouts.

I do talk with my hands – I can get pretty animated sometimes.

Sounds like your quarter is off to a good start…busy but good. Can’t wait to hear more about your job. Have a good Wednesday Jenn!

  5. Okay word nerd, I was a broadcast journalism major too! Too funny! But I don’t talk with my hands, I talk with my feet. Not really, but wouldn’t that be something?!

This may be a dumb question, but how do you make a whipped banana? (That sounds like the start of a joke my 3 yr. old would tell–she’s really into the “orange you glad I didn’t say banana?” knock knock joke).

Clearly I need to go to bed =)

  6. Aw thanks for the shout out lady!!

Your new job sounds amazing – I, for one, am very jeal!

I may or may not have been drooling over the melty barney butter, you can be the judge on that one 😉

Nut butter on a stick?! GIRL PATENT THAT NOW!! Genius!

    Have a fabulous Wednesday 😀

  7. So glad you love your new job. It does sound like an extension of blogging! Eats look great. I have never seen a YouBar but I def want to try one now- who wouldn’t like nut butter in solid form? Get some rest tonight 😉

  8. That new job sounds fantastic!! How cool!! Good to know about the YouBars, since I’ve seen them but was waiting to hear what other people said about them…

I totally talk with my hands! My students joke that if they held my arms down, I couldn’t formulate a sentence!

  9. I wasn’t a big fan of the Chocolate JamFrakas either. I prefer the PB one.

The new job sounds really cool, I hope everything goes well for you!

I do talk with my hands but not that often, usually if I’m mad or really passionate about something I will.

  10. Your job sounds fun! And I would definitely take some nut butter on a stick. I’d choose PB though, obvi.

    I talk with my hands, but I don’t think I’m excessive about it. I don’t think…

  11. Your publishing job sounds awesome! CONGRATS! Although, looking at pictures of food all day would probably make me extra hungry!!

I def talk with my hands! I try to control them most of the time…haha.

  12. Woo glad you’re doing so great at your job, I’m so happy for you Jenn! I’m also jealous that you have such exciting classes, I can only hope my senior year is that exciting 😉

I may have to make some whipped banana oats in honor of you this morning!

I think as I’ve grown older I use hand gestures more, but I don’t know if they are a prominent feature of my communication skills. I always think of how much Europeans use their hands, and think it’s funny that Americans do not do the same.

  13. It sounds like you have a fun job! I buy lots of those magazines.

I talk with my hands all the time. I come from an Italian family and we all do that, although I am not as bad as some.

Your breakfast sounds yummy, by the way. I need to try using chocolate almond (or soy) milk in my oatmeal!

  14. mmm that gooey barney butter looks awesome in your oats, yum!

i’m definitely jealous of your job—looking at food photos all day is so much fun!

i definitely use my hands when i talk but try to keep it under control because i think its obnoxious when people go overboard with it (*cough* rachael ray *cough*)

  15. Thanks for the mini-reviews of the bars. I haven’t tried either yet.

Hope you’re getting through the first, long days alright. It seems like you’re doing well!

(I just realized I’ll be in Chicago in about 6 weeks!! AH!)

  16. Hey Jenn! Thanks for the shout out! Coffee Cocoa rocks!

Your job sounds cool; I’m a total recipe hound, so I would love it!

    Good luck with the Emmys!

Oh, and to answer your random question: I’m Italian; need I say more???!!!! 🙂

  17. Your job sounds so cool! And your YouBar sounds great, I’ve been wanting to try those but I haven’t had a chance yet.

If I’m really enthusiastic about something, then I talk with my hands, but otherwise I’m fairly low key! 🙂

  18. When I was in school i had spread out taking my fun classes throughout the years so when I got to be a senior I still had a mix of hard classes and fun ones.

I think i talk with my hands, I mean who doesn’t?

  19. Yummy Jenn!
Please don’t apologize! It’s too bad how commenting becomes a duty! I know you’re out there baby. 🙂
That cashew bar has me straight trippin.

  20. I point. A lot. Especially if there’s any drinking involved.
I’m no where near as bad as my best friend she gestures so much sometimes her mom makes her sit on her hands. And one time she had a glass of wine in her hand and did some big hand movement and flung the wine all over my carpet. She was mortified and still hasn’t brought wine over to drink at my apartment.

  21. love rice pudding – thanks for reminding me to put it on my grocery list! and does your company have any openings in MD? seriously – i am SO jealous!!

I dont talk with my hands too much, but my mom is an interpreter for the deaf – so she always does – even when she just speaking. 😉

  22. I talk with my hands esp when i drive! ha i look crazy…Your job sounds sooo fun I would love to do that, I’ve been looking up editorial/journalism jobs lately! PS love your oatmeal and coffee on the carpet pics ;D

  23. Sabra hummus is like crack for me! I just bought a big wholesale club size tub of it – I swear I will finish it this week! 🙂

You’ll have to do a review of all the P90X stuff – I always want to get it but never have the guts! I’m super interested to hear how it turns out!

  24. OMG! I am applying for an internship for this summer RIGHT NOW. Crazy?!!? I wish you still lived here…I would bring you in for reference;) Thanks for the add!!!:D

  25. that sounds like a PERFECT job!
i didn’t receive the samples of those bars, but i’m kinda glad after what i heard about them! i’ll stick to original larabars
i’m not a hand talker. at all. i have no clue why, but i’ve never talked with my hands
you’ll have to let us know what you think about the p90x workout! i’m way intrigued
    have a wonderful night!

  26. Your job sounds so cool! 🙂

I talk with my hands some, but I don’t gesture nearly as much as a lot of people I know.

  27. great job! those bars look great! and i’m so excited to see how p90x is!

yes, i do gesture, but i’m half italian, so it’s ok. right? lol 🙂
