Sore All Over

Everybody say heck yes to P90X! I am sore all over today. Everything from my legs up through my shoulders is achy, but in a GOOD way. I love that I was able to get that feeling from the comfort of home without even having to step foot on a cardio machine. It’s a good sign for what’s to come.

I didn’t get my snow day this morning πŸ™ I suppose we would have to make it up somewhere along the line, so it’s probably for the best. Breakfast was somewhat of a repeat of yesterday, with a minor difference. I started out with another bowl of egg whites, spinach and fat free feta cheese. I’m loving this combo because it reminds me of the Mediterranean omelettes I often get when I go out for brunch.

dscn1290

I also had another serving of Greek yogurt with bananas. But today I switched it up for your viewing pleasure by having a Chobani and topping it with 1 tsp. maple syrup.

dscn1291

I’m loving this protein-packed combination. It keeps me full for hours!

dscn1288

And of course…Coffee Cocoa.

dscn1293

After b-fast, I went to the dentist for my six month checkup. I’m proud to let everyone know that there were no cavities to be found  I looked like our friend Mr. Green. Once the appointment was over, I rushed to class in the FRIGID COLD and made it just before it started.

Class was pretty interesting. I am fascinated by the issue of gender in the labor force so far, especially as a female! While I was walking between economics and psychology, I snacked on a new bar.

dscn1296

I received samples from the folks at Pure Bar a few months back and broke out the Chocolate Brownie flavor today. These bars are vegan and completely raw (basically like a Larabar). This particular flavor had the following ingredients: “Organic Dates, Organic Walnuts, Organic Agave Nectar, Organic Almonds, Organic Cashews, Organic Brown Rice Protein, Organic Cocoa and that’s all!”

dscn1297

I had already eaten half of it by the time I was able to take a picture πŸ˜‰ It was pretty good, a lot like a Jocolat bar in taste and texture. There were huge chunks of nuts in there, too. I’d say that if you’re a fan of Larabars and/or Jocolat, you will definitely be a fan of these. Thanks, Pure Bar! I’m looking forward to checking out some of the other, more unique flavors.

After my classes finished, I came back and made myself a nice lunch.

dscn1257

I know, more Greek yogurt! Ah well, what can I say? I got quite a deal on it at Whole Foods last weekend. I topped the yogurt with some PB Puffins.

dscn1258

With the yogurt, I also had a can of Amy’s Organic Chunky Vegetable Soup. I really liked this one because it had so many veggies and the broth didn’t taste watery at all. Amy’s is so amazing!

dscn1260

After I made this, I decided to have a serving of Kashi crackers on the side with a part-skim mozzarella string cheese. I love combining the string cheese with the crackers – it’s good, try it!

dscn1256

After lunch it was time to get moving with Tony Horton again. Today’s P90X workout was called Cardio X. I had no idea what to expect going into it, but again I was pleasantly surprised! The workout is basically broken down into four parts:

  • Yoga (I did my first ever downward dog and warrior poses)!
  • Karate (kicks and punches)
  • Plyometrics (jumping jacks, etc.)
  • Core (squats and abs)

The workout was shorter today (40 instead of 60 minutes), but once I was done I still managed to be covered in sweat! It’s unbelievable! I honestly had no idea that it was possible for me to work this hard without going to the gym and/or doing a cardio machine or jogging. Once the first week is over, I will compile all of my reviews and add them to my Workouts page. I firmly believe there will also be a major endorsement for this program on there somewhere, if you haven’t had enough of one already!

After another sore-inducing sweat sesh (hehe alliteration!), I cleaned up and made myself a nice dinner before heading to my night class.

dscn1299

I owe my super cool friend Sarah a massive shout out on this one, because she’s the one who first suggested that I try the sweet potato + cottage cheese combination.

dscn1302

Well girly, you were so right about this one! Just like always πŸ˜‰ Wow, it was such a fantastic combo that I ate it way too fast and it was gone! Now I need to stock up on more sweet potatoes and cottage cheese. I can tell it’s going to become a staple around here. I also had an AmyLu Sun Dried Tomato + Basil Chicken Sausage. It was so flavorful and delicious with some HFCS-free ketchup.

dscn1303

And to cap off the night, I had a mild Raspberry Lemon chocolate.

dscn1263

Phew! Another day is over already? Time goes by way too fast! I can’t believe it’s already almost 11:00! I would just like to let all of my fellow bloggers know that I am still reading your posts as much as I can. I may not always be able to comment, but I’m there. I’m sure all of you know what I’m talking about, but I just thought I’d put it out there!

Random Question

**I loved reading about all of your quirks yesterday! I can do the clover leaf with my tongue, too πŸ™‚ Some of you had some really wild ones that I wish I could see in person! Perhaps someday I will make a video of my tongue touching my nose, as some requested – haha!

What is your favorite lesser known brand?

I need a brand to study for my marketing class, hence the question! It can’t be too small of a company because I need to be able to get information on it, but I don’t want something too well known, either. Anybody have any suggestions? My example for you would be something like Burt’s Bees. But that one’s taken already!

I love eggs and spinach, too. I usually get tomatoes, too when I order out.

What about philosophy, the maker of your amazing grace?

  6. Hells yes on the PB Puffins. The soup looks mightly good too – lots of veggies for a canned soup. And I’m totally intrigued by your new workout – I’ll have to check it out. Maybe one day it will be in my life as well.

  7. There is so much good food in this post that I don’t even know where to start. Seriously, everything looks amazing, especialyl dinner and that bar. I have one Jocolat bar in my cupboard and I haven’t tried it yet–hopefully it tastes as good as that looks!

LOVE Amy’s–perhaps that could be your brand? I guess that is becoming more and more popular. What about Annie’s? I will try to think of more that are better!

  10. Yummy eats!!! Ive been eating Fage yogurt a couple times per day recently too- since it was on sale πŸ˜‰

I’m going to say Amy’s or Barbara’s, I dont think a lot of people are familiar with it. Actually….even KASHI.. my sister in law was suer excited about the “new” go lean crunch she found a few weeks ago… (we both know its been out a long time)!! her exact words “I had never heard of that before!”

  11. What about the Barney Butter company that everyone in Blogland seems obsessed with recently?!

  12. i haven’t had a chicken sausage in ages!! at my WF I recently found SO MANY that I want to eventually try…….and I definitely thought of you!

  13. ohhh…that pure bar looks soooo good! looks like my kind of bar w/ that dark chocolatey color!

  15. GREAT WORKOUT!!! Love the eats especially too (sweet potato!! PB Puffins!!) πŸ˜€

**Brand = I hear ya on the stressed front… I can’t think of one either right now, haha!! Sorry!!

  16. Sweet Potato + Puffins = LOVE!

Did you just recieve the Purebars or did you ask to sample them? I keep seeing people recieving free samples so I don’t know if everyone else is just being asked or if they are asking themselves.

  17. Your breakfast bowl looks so good! i love mediteranian omletes too πŸ™‚ I have been looking at this P90x and am so glad you’re doing a review to see if it is worth it! Sounds pretty amazing so far!
lesser known brand? im thinking amys!

  18. I have exercised at home for YEARS and never set foot in a gym (other than below). Some people find it hard to comprehend but you CAN get just as fit at home. I own over 100 exercise DVD’s. I’m glad you are discovering this convenient and CHEAP fitness method! πŸ™‚
A small group of us used to visit the original FIRM studio in Columbia before the family business was bought out (and drastically changed for the worse! IMHO) The instructors there were amazed that we had the “attention span” to do their videos instead of visiting a gym or club.

  19. i’m so glad that you tried and like the sweet potato/cottage cheese combo!

it sounds like P90x is going really well so far, I honestly don’t have room to do it at school (my room is the size of a shoebox) but maybe i’ll buy it when i get home this summer! being sore after a good workout is one of the best feelings, haha.

  20. The pure bar looks super tasty! It’s got me craving a brownie!

I looove Amy’s vegetable soup, I like to kick it up some more by adding red pepper flakes, cumin, and extra spinach.

  21. Delicious eats, Jenn! I tried the cottage cheese sweet potato combo and LOVED it as well πŸ™‚

TWILIGHT NEWS: Leah Clearwater is NOT even in the screenplay for New Moon, hence the Vanessa Hudgens stuff is JUST A RUMOR!

    Happy Wednesday!!

  22. Your breakfast looks so good! I’m going to have to try that soon.

Barney Butter? Stonyfield (are they small enough)? I just remember they have a pretty neat website.

  23. mmm i love sweet potatoes and cottage cheese. add a little cinnamon/sugar, brown sugar, or maple syrup to up the “yum factor” πŸ™‚

  24. OH man – now I’m begging my husband daily to buy P90X (two girls I play volleyball with are doing it too – and they had the same review as you!)

I’m not sure on that sweet potato/CC combo – I love both, but I don’t think both go together! πŸ™‚

  25. Sweet potato and cottage cheese, eh? I wish I liked cottage cheese! haha, it does look good though.

I think I could live off Amy’s soups. They are so good.

Humm… you ask a tough question when it comes to lesser-known brands. I really have to think about that one and get back to you.

  26. Love the protein packed breakfast – delish!!

Glad the dentist visit went well πŸ™‚ Thanks for the review too!

I am all over the Amy’s soup and SP & CC – knockout dishes my dear πŸ˜€

  27. Green Mountain Coffee. I did my ad campaign on that company when I was in college and it was great! It’s GREAT coffee, not expensive but not dirt cheap, can easily be found on college campuses, wide variety of flavors. It ended up being a great choice for my project.

  28. Alright…you’ve sold me on PX90! A few months ago, my hubby was talking about and but I just figured it was another “infomercial” junk product, but now I might seriously look into it! πŸ™‚ All your eats look delicious, especially breakfast.

My favorite lesser known brand is PB & Co. When I asked for the sampler pack for Christmas my family thought I was crazy, but then they tasted some and realized I wasn’t. πŸ™‚

  29. I feel sore just WATCHING the PX90 commercial!! LOL!!

You had me at BROWNIE with the Pure Bar πŸ™‚

The sweet potato and cottage cheese is an interesting combo! I’ll have to give that a try πŸ™‚

  30. First off, the bowl with the birds is adorable!

And secondly, I made my own version of your coffee cocoa and LOVED it! Thanks for the inspiration. Now I can get a Starbucks Mocha taste at home. Yay!

  31. Loving hearing about the workouts, and it’s great to be good and sore, no? Your body is working hard…and how cool that you can do these workouts at home. Sometimes, I just don’t have time to drive to and from the gym, and so I like hearing about home workouts. Nothing like working up a good sweat in your own living room.

Your dinner looks perfect to me! Love cottage cheese on my sweet taters…especially with little sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice!

Hmmm, a lesser known brand…I really love Dr. Bronner’s soaps. I buy the big bottles to refill our hand soap dispensers, and then I’ll use whatever is left as a shower gel. The peppermint is by far my favorite flava.

    Yay for Down Dog!

  32. I am so intrigued by the P90X program! How much space do you think you need to be able to do the workouts properly? We have a small house, so I am worried we wouldn’t have enough room…

Have you ever tried Wallaby yogurt? Its pretty good, comes in fun flavors and can usually be found at Whole Foods. And of course I love Amy’s…

  33. Glad to hear about the P90X is working for you. I’ve wondered about it since I saw the infomercial at the gym of all places. πŸ™‚

Favorite lesser known brands: Chobani, Bob’s Red Mill and the Pamela’s Gluten Free stuff.

  34. hey eatingbender!

i’m new to the blogging community & couldn’t wait to post comments on the blogs that i read. (i’m still figuring out how to put all of your links on my sidebar…if you could assist with that i’d be more than grateful!)

anyway, i think it’s brave of you to do the p90x thing! i’ve seen the commercials! the workouts look intense!
also, i couldn’t help but notice that you are a journalism major…i am too! πŸ™‚

    cheers!

  35. Thanks for answering my P90X questions!! One of Brian’s work friends is doing it too and seeing great results.

I LOVE the Alexia brand (frozen fries, breads, sandwiches, etc.)

  36. Good to hear that Tony’s kicking your butt … I mean that in a good way, of course. πŸ˜‰ He rocks it! Look forward to more reviews!

Love your bird bowl – so fabulous!

  37. I was going to suggest Annie’s but Amy’s would be great too. A partner at my firm started making Amy’s meals for lunch and the secretaries keep talking about how they have never heard of that brand and it sounded like weird Hippy food. I was cracking up in my office!

  38. Heck yes to P90x. I’m excited that it’s working well. i love the sore feeling – it makes you feel as though you really had a great workout – as long as I am not too sore!

PB PUFFINS!!! I love that cereal.

I’m trying to think of some good brands- but a lot of the ones I was thinking of have already been mentioned by previous comments. I did a project on chic-fil-a one year in college- thats a big one though. and my next recommendations would Amy’s or Clif bar??

  39. That PURE bar sounds right up my alley.. will definitely pick it up if I ever see it!

I agree with others recommending Amy’s… I couldn’t live without their meals, so I would love to see some marketing done on them, since I don’t really see them that much.

Stay warm.. it’s supposed to STRUGGLE TO REACH ZERO tomorrow.. brrr!!

  40. You just reminded me of how much I love bananas and Greek yogurt together…yum!

I just tried that PURE bar last week…what other flavors do they have?

  41. Okay I seriously need to look into this P90x business now. It sounds SO good. I really really want to try it! Combining yoga and kickboxing in one? COOL.

Loving all the eats too. The Pure bars definitely sound like something I would enjoy if they remind you of the Jocolats. Yummy.
And the cottage cheese on sweet potato… MUST try that. I’ll have to get around to it asap though because I just got a new container of cottage cheese and those only last about a day in my fridge until I eat em all up. What can I say, I’m addicted!

  42. Firt time on the site and am a huge fan already. Started p90x threee days ago and I am SORE ALLOVER. No doubt that it will be a great three month program. Your site works perfectly for those of us with a need for visuals. Keep on taking the pics…it really helps.
