What Can Brown Do For Me?

Thanks to everyone who posted a question for Jen Perez on my last post! I will compile your questions with my own into one big list πŸ™‚ I can’t wait to see what she has to say!

Today I crossed off several things on my to-do list:

  • P90X Core Synergistics Workout
  • Economics of Gender Final Exam
  • Integrated Marketing Final Paper
  • Blog Reading

Yes, still behind on the last one, unfortunately! I can’t wait until I have nothing to do for two whole weeks starting March 12. It’s going to be glorious. Oh, and the blog anniversary is later this month, too, so I will definitely be planning something special for that!

The theme for today’s post is “What Can Brown Do For Me?” Yes, I purposefully gleaned inspiration from UPS. You’ll see why in a bit πŸ˜‰ First of all, we have a “brown” breakfast. After reading this post from Caroline, I was inspired to finally try my hand at “Girl Scout Oats” because I have yet to actually have a cookie this year. I wanted to model them after Peanut Butter Patties – and yes, that is what they are called in my neck of the woods. What is this “Tagalong” business, Caroline? πŸ˜‰ Anyway, here was what went into the bowl:

  • 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1/4 cup skim milk
  • 1/2 scoop Jay Robb chocolate whey protein powder
  • 1 tsp. dark cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp. ground flax
  • 1 tbsp. Barney Butter

I know what you’re thinking. Technically “almond butter” doesn’t meet the Girl Scout Cookie criteria, but wouldn’t it be great if they made a cookie like that? This bowl was delicious! I have to point out that the dark cocoa powder was awesome, too – if you like dark chocolate, try it!

dscn2356

Of course, “brown” was also doing things for me in the Coffee Cocoa department:

dscn2359

Continuing on through a morning of class, a final exam and extreme tiredness, “brown” was also doing things for me when I was ready to eat some lunch.

dscn2249

I picked up a brown rice California roll at Whole Foods last week. I just can’t help myself because it is made fresh daily and I guess I see it as my once-a-week treat lunch πŸ™‚ It’s so good!

dscn2250

I also had some of Heather’s Mixed Brown Bread topped with more brown Barney Butter.

dscn2255

See, I wasn’t kidding around when I said “brown” was doing things for me today!

Now here’s where the real “brown” comes in. Later in the afternoon, I received a visit from the UPS man, who dropped off an incredible box of goodies just for me!

dscn2368

The amazing Brittany sent me a box filled with new products I have never tried before: hemp protein, a Dr. Weil bar, and Trader Joe’s pumpkin butter. She also sent me some of my favorites: coconut Larabar, WCMN Clif Bars, and a sweet card πŸ™‚ But the kicker here? It’s hiding underneath all of those things!

dscn2371

HOLY YUM COCONUT MACAROONS!! If you’ve been reading her amazing blog, you probably noticed her baking these last week. She posted the recipe here! Of course, I had to try one immediately.

dscn2374

Oh wait, did I say that I had to try “one” immediately? Hm…try three  They were SO delicious! I can’t wait to try these out for myself sometime. Thank you so much, Brittany! Between your generosity and Melissa’s generosity this week, I am overwhelmed with blog love. Honestly – thank you. It is making the week go by so much easier!

But if my economics courses have taught me anything, it’s that the business world is full of competition. (I realize that I have officially taken the “brown” theme too far, but bear with me.) Less than 20 minutes later, the FedEx man was at my door making me an offer.

In addition to having the chance to interview Jen Perez, I also received some EAS product samples from Robyn. I can’t wait to try these – I’ve always been intrigued by them in stores, but have never actually bought the brand. Thanks, Robyn! I’ll be sure to post a review as I try each one!

And now you know just how big of a dork I am. I create post themes based on shipping service slogans!

FYI: Dinner was not “brown” – in fact, it was a green salad πŸ™‚ Had to get in the veggies at some point!

  1. that oatmeal looks INCREDIBLE! And yay for UPS bringing goodies your way πŸ™‚

  2. Can’t wait to see what you have up your sleeve for your blogs anniversary. Mine is this month as well- I don’t have any good ideas as of yet.

Such a great idea to make Girl Scout Oats.. My favorite is Samoas and I have a feeling those ingredients would make awesome oats. Brown rice sushi is always a good choice.

Yippee- it arrived!! I’m glad you enjoyed the macaroons!

  3. Yay! I’m glad you tried the oatmeal! Sorry, I should have referred to the cookie by both its names…for the record, I suppose Samoas are Caramel Delights as well? Haha.

I am so jealous of your Living Harvest protei packets–they are so delicious!

  4. I don’t think you can ever really take blog sayings too far. If you can, I’m in trouble with all that “That’s what she said!” business.

I love the dark chocolate cocoa powder too! A little goes a long way.

I think the Myoplex bars are very “Luna”esque. Hope you like them!

    Have a good Wednesday Jenn!

  5. Maybe I am also a giant dork (yes, also – you are too), but I really like your themed posts. It’s like a little reading adventure!

The brown oats look just like a cookie in a bowl.

RIght up there w/brown rice sushi- i think you totally deserve a weekly lunch treat! I just bookmarked her macaroon recipe they look so good! Hm..imagine a lil almond butter on there…haha too much?? nahh.

  7. All your brown eats look might good to me! Although, I think I would have gone with the peanut butter instead of almond in the oats, but that’s just personal preference.

I saw those macaroons when Brittany made them, I must try them out, since I love me some coconut πŸ™‚

PS – I answered your question about my immersion blender in the comments section on my blog. Wasn’t sure if you saw it or not πŸ™‚

  10. All of your brown food looks yummy… and those macaroons look amazing! What a nice package to receive πŸ™‚ I call those girl scout cookies peanut butter patties also – I don’t understand why they’re known by different names?! Similarly, “caramel delights” are known as samoas. I just go with what I grew up with.

What a fun day of all things brown. Chocolate brown is truly one of my most favorite colors. Makes me happy, not to mention the fact that it tastes yummy. πŸ™‚

Let me know how you like the Living Harvest Hemp powder. I have an entire container of the vanilla spice, and the only thing I’ve liked it in is some homemade power bars. Otherwise, I think it taste like dirt. πŸ™

On a happier note, your macaroons look delicious. Very sweet of Brittany. Enjoy the rest of your Wednesday my friend!
