HI!!!

dscn2882

Thank you so much for all of your good luck wishes on my last post. I got back from LA this afternoon and am excited to report that my roomie and I came home with 2nd place!! Of course, it’s not the dream grand prize, but after the incredible weekend we had and the chance to meet our competition, we felt honored just to be invited, much less to be able to take home any award!

dscn2869

I am so proud of our show. I am so proud of my roommate, K. I am so proud of our news team and all of the people who worked behind the scenes to make the show possible. And, I have to admit, I’m a little proud of myself, too 😉 One of the best parts of the gala was that we had the chance to meet CARLOS – aka Ricardo Chavira – from Desperate Housewives!

dscn2887

He was backstage after we received our trophies and was so nice! He asked for our names and was flattered that we watch his show each week 🙂 It was a great moment! Our host was also Mr. Tom Bergeron of Dancing with the Stars fame.

dscn2888

It was truly a night I will remember forever, and one that I feel so fortunate to have been able to be a part of during my college career.

Another amazing part of my trip to LA? The chance to meet up with fellow food blogger and amazing friend, Miss Caroline of Banana Cabana!

dscn2910

Caroline provided a fun recap here, but to echo what she said, we met up on Sunday morning for a lil’ bloggie chat session 🙂 We were originally going to go to a cute little cafe, but arrived 1/2 an hour too early. Eventually, thanks to Caroline’s superior navigation skills, we came across Mel’s Drive-in.

dscn2911

It had such a cute atmosphere – very Old Hollywood-esque – and a classic diner menu.

dscn2912

After eyeing all of the options, we both decided on omelettes. I got the mushroom omelette with wheat toast and fruit. It was delish!

dscn2909

Of course, the best part of the meal was the chance to talk to Caroline. As she said, our topics ranged from blogging to food to what we like to do when we’re not thinking/talking about either of those things 😉 She is truly as kind and awesome as she appears on her blog, and after I told her of my plans to go to the farmer’s market later that day, she even texted me to tell me that they had a Pinkberry [more on that later!] I had a lot of fun and she helped me develop a plan for that Blogger Book Club we talked about a while back. Expect to hear more on that later this week!!

After our bloggie get together, I headed back to the hotel to get ready for the next event on the Emmy weekend calendar – the screening of all the winning shows and films. Let me just say that some of the film winners should already be bringing home the big bucks in movie theaters. They were incredible! Topics ranged from humanitarian issues in Africa to a 16-year-old girl struggling with the fact that she still doesn’t have her period. They were all remarkable.

Before the screening, however, my roomie and I had the chance to visit a Hollywood farmer’s market. It was in a really great area called “The Grove” that had a lot of shopping.

dscn2918

There was so much variety there! Of course, I had to get a picture by some bread 😉 I even brought home a delicious egg roll bun.

dscn2930

The market also had a plethora of candy, nuts and jams. I took a picture of the nut butter aisle 😉

dscn2917

And then came lunch – otherwise known as Pinkberry! I really wanted to find some of the famous California/NY fro yo before I left LA, and Caroline was sweet enough to text me and let me know that it was right there under my nose!

dscn2923

It took a while to decide what to get, but eventually I chose the original tangy fro yo and topped it with blueberries, kiwi and coconut.

dscn2927

Wow, it was so good! It made me realize that I need to hit up Red Mango near my campus more often, especially now that spring has arrived!

dscn2929

It was, by all standards, a once-in-a-lifetime trip! I am now just happy to be back home with my family for another week 🙂 I have a lot to catch up on in the few days I was gone!

I’m looking forward to spending the next couple of days getting caught up on the hundreds of posts and going ons that I’ve missed in the blogosphere! I also have a nifty (!) guest post to share with you. Until then, thanks again for all of your support. It means so much to me and made this moment even more special. All the more proof that the food blog community is the BEST.

Luv,
