In The Circle, On The Square

Thank you all for the anniversary wishes! Reading them made the day even more special. 🙂

During our drive to the Grand Canyon, we made a pit stop in Flagstaff for lunch. Neither of us had ever been to the city, but having heard good things (it’s one of the most walkable cities, for starters) were eager to visit. We parked near the historic downtown and headed to Diablo Burger, a 100% local burger joint located “in the circle, on the square,” with the coolest branding ever.

Yes, that was meant to be a pun. 😉

All of their burgers are made with open range-raised, antibiotic-free and growth-hormone free beef, and produce is sourced locally, as well. I knew Mama Bender would be proud of us, so in we went. My choice was the Ziggy Stardust (Your Name Here) burger, a build-your-own to which I added pepper jack cheese, DB’s special sauce, grilled onions and pickles. It was served on a bed of seasoned fries, and made my mouth water just looking at it.

Oh. So. Good. I also enjoyed a Hefeweizen and found out that Diablo Burger will be transitioning to a new local brewery, Mother Road, very soon. Guess that means we’ll have to come back!

This meal held us over through sunset at the Grand Canyon. By the time we arrived back at the hotel, we were running out of dinner options and decided to eat at The Canyon Star Restaurant and Saloon, known for its nightly entertainment, a rather talented banjo/harmonica player and singer named Buck.

I went for the balsamic berry salad, which was superb! It was topped with fresh strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries, along with pecans and feta cheese. There was also just enough dressing – not too soggy.

Now that we’ve covered lunch and dinner, I suppose I ought to show you breakfast, right?

M-m-m-m-m-m-mimosas! Along with a delicious dose of Brunch Egg Casserole!

We feasted on both of these the morning of our anniversary while watching the Green Bay Packers beat the Rams and move to 6-0! It was a fabulous victory meal, indeed.

Can’t wait for my next post! I finally made something with all those apples. 🙂 How bout dem apples?

What are you feasting on that has made you smile this week?

Abrazos,
