Scrabbasketball

Happy Saturday!

Last night was spent introducing Bobby to How I Met Your Mother. Anyone else a fan of that show? He wasn’t completely convinced after the first episode but after the second, he was obviously getting into it. We proceeded to watch four more before calling it a night. 🙂

For dinner, we made quinoa with edamame, corn and shrimp.

I am loving how easy this meal is and how many different ingredient possibilities there are. Quinoa is becoming a weekly staple and I’m only wondering how it took me so long to find it!

Tonight we’re hanging out with a few friends, but in the meantime we’ll be watching the start of the Final Four games while playing a little bit of what we call “Scrabbasketball.” In other words, watching basketball while playing the time-tested family favorite word game.

I have never been a very good Scrabble player, but Bobby loves it. He plays it with his dad and brothers whenever we visit, and although I’ve tried a couple of times, I knew they were just humoring me. 😉 Then came Words with Friends. Although some of the details are different (namely that it tells you whether a word exists or not, thereby eliminating the Scrabble challenge rule), I have learned a lot about the strategy behind the game.

And I think I’m ready to take everyone on when we visit Kansas City next weekend!

Only time will tell whether I can back up my confidence, haha.

At least I’ll be wearing some cool new shoes if I lose.

After months and months of wanting to buy a pair of TOMS, I finally decided on the Ash Canvas Classics. They arrived yesterday and I’m already loving them. Good shoes for a good cause.

Hope your weekend is off to a great start! I’ll be back tomorrow with the end of #MarchPhotoADay.

Are you cheering on anyone in the Final Four?

Bobby is hoping for Kansas to face Louisville in the final game. No particular reason other than a tournament pool. My teams are already out, so I’ll cheer alongside him. 🙂

Abrazos,

  1. Yep – plenty o’ Scrabble for sure. I learn so many random two-letter words from the guys’ games. I’m a big Boggle fan…maybe we can add that to the mix? Oh, and Gooooo Jayhawks!

  2. I love ‘How I Met Your Mother’–it’s my new ‘Friends’ when I want to watch something light-hearted and funny. Quinoa is the next saved-for purchase on my grocery list. The cheapest I’ve been able to find it is $8 a bag at Target, so I’m hoping it’s worth it. All your recipes make it sound like it is! Love the shoes, by the way. 🙂

    • It’s our new “Friends,” too! Loved that show. 🙂 I really hope you enjoy the quinoa. I think it will be worth it, but I’m biased!

  3. Yum! What a great dinner!! Its like healthy fried rice. I think josh isnt a fan of any of the teams left! Im more of a football girl

    • I’m definitely more of a football girl – though when I was younger basketball was the end all be all!

  4. Omgggggg once you buy toms you never go back!! They’re so addicting! I need to get a new pair this summer because I wore them so much on my days off from work and they got faded! They also make really great commuting shoes haha. Have a fun sat night!

    • Love it! I have a feeling there will be many more pairs of TOMS in my future. 🙂 Hope you had a great weekend, Julie!

  5. How I Met Your Mother is on constantly in my house! It’s one show that Seth and I can both agree on, so I’m pretty sure we’ve seen every episode at least once 🙂

    • Awesome! We’ve been watching like crazy all weekend. New obsession. 🙂

  6. So much that I love here! HIMYM is one of my all-time favorite shows (own seasons 1-3, and hopefully more soon), and I’m extra digging your new shoes. I have a pair of the black canvas and one striped corduroy pair and I love them. Only sad thing is the black ones are already wearing out (5 months after purchase), although they do get worn at least 3 times a week. At this point I’m rooting for Kansas to win it all, but really all the fun teams to cheer for are long gone.

    • Hurray for HIMYM! Interesting about the TOMS – I have a feeling mine will get a lot of wear, too. We’ll see how they fare!
