A Bear-y Special Visit

by Jenn (eating bender) on July 29, 2013

Two weekends ago, we went from monsoon sunsets in Arizona…

…to river sunsets on the border of Kansas and Missouri.

And as you may recall, in Kansas there is no place like home. Claire Bear’s home, that is.

We spent an amazing whirlwind weekend hanging out with the Bear, along with Adam, Susan and “Claire Jr.,” the creative moniker of our soon-to-be-born niece (courtesy of Uncle Bobby).

The visit began with an invitation to Claire’s new house, complete with cake and party guests Pooh and Minnie. We had a blast ringing the doorbell, checking for mail and calling each other on the phone. “Hi Jinn!” (Claire assumes an adorable Southern accent when she says my name.)

From there we headed down to the farm, which you may remember from our trip with all three nieces pieces last year. (As a side note, holy moly did I take and post a lot of pictures on that trip. I am officially one of those aunts. Not that this is news to anyone…)

This time around, Claire had a lot of fun feeding the goats…

…and the sheep. You can tell they were equally excited to see her and the food!

And I mean excited. I’m not kid-ding around. ;) These guys were climbing the fence to see us.

We had a great time exploring, swinging and piggy back riding.

After all that walking, we rewarded ourselves with a treat from Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt. Vanilla with blueberries, red velvet with white chocolate chips and orange dreamsicle with sour gummy worms – you know, just in case it wasn’t sweet enough. It was a delicious combination, and I loved the separator that went into our cup so we could keep the flavors distinct if we wanted to.

We also were in town for Adam’s birthday, which provided the perfect opportunity to give him our present: a puddle jumper that we hope he will be able to wear quite often!

In all seriousness, we were very excited for Adam – and Claire Bear – to use the gift, so we headed straight for the pool to try it out (thanks for letting me “borrow” these pictures from you, Susan).

We had a lot of fun swimming and playing on the pool stairs with our new turtle friend, Michelangelo (the best TMNT, you know). When we got back, we had some amazing Kansas City barbecue. Then Claire generously guided Adam through opening a few more birthday presents!

Susan pulled out all the stops with a chocolate pie for dessert, complete with numerical candles.

And our fun day ended with some hilarious bedtime stories, including one about a stinky skunk.

We only wish the visit could have been longer! Still, it was great to have the chance to see Claire once more before she becomes a big sister. We can’t wait to meet little sis on our next trip to KC.

Big Sis

Thanks so much for having us, everyone! We had a blast. In the words of the Bear, “Okay, buh bye!”

Abrazos,

Your nieces always melt my heart! SO cute! Love all of the activities. We have the same minnie and pooh balls. I have never seen a frozen yogurt divider before- how funny.

Ahhhh the goats, they’re back! So fun. The puddle jumper was such a great gift — I’m sure Claire will love it. Glad you got the chance to get out there before baby dos!

That face! She’s such a cutie! Also, those fro yo container separators are brilliant – I wonder if any places in Chicago have those…

Those are beautiful pictures of the sunset. Looks like it was a blast. I mean, how can you not have a good time if goats are involved?

What a fun-filled trip (and amazingly gorgeous sunset photos. Wow, girl!). It sounds like you all nailed the kiddo-friendly weekend with the pool, the zoo, birthday candles and more. :) Love!

We have an Orange Leaf here and I’ve never seen those brilliant dividers. Hopefully next time I visit they’ll have ‘em!

Awww! Claire looks so adorable feeding those animals. Sheโ€™s so cute! How many times in a month do you visit your niece? It must be really hard to be away with her.
