The Birthday Boy Named Scurvy Dog

by Jenn (eating bender) on September 16, 2013

The birthday boy has gone by many names. This year he was Uncle Bobby, aka the “Scurvy Dog.”

The nickname is courtesy of How I Became A Pirate, a favorite book of our nieces pieces, Caroline and Kelly. We flew to California for some weekend fun with the girls, Cara, Jim and Dublin.

Saturday began with a trip to Pannikin, where giant muffins and iced coffees were consumed.

We then hit up the beach for some sand and sea adventures.

Uncle Bobby and I were also super excited to have the chance to see the girls in action at open gym. We’d heard that Kelly was a pro on the trampoline, and that for Caroline the rings were a breeze.

The girls were superstars on the balance beam and in the foam pit, as well. Future members of the Fierce Five, perhaps? I’m thinking 2028 or 2032.

After we had exhausted ourselves at the gym, we headed back to the house to rest up. It wasn’t long before Caroline was back in action, though – this time showing off her baseball skills!

We also got in some fun at the pool. Dinnertime rolled around too quickly, but it was delicious! Cara made her specialty of Trader Joe’s Lemon Pepper Pappardelle pasta with sliced mozzarella, Parmesan and tomatoes (flashback to last year – it’s amazing how much the ladies have grown)!

She also whipped up a batch of cupcakes for the birthday boy.

We sang, we cheered – and the Scurvy Dog was all smiles. 😉

Caroline and Kelly helped Bobby blow out the candles…

…and then it was time to eat!

The verdict? Those cupcakes sure were delicious. The adults each had two. :)

Thanks for making Bobby’s birthday weekend extra special, everyone! We miss you already. Happy 27th birthday again to my amazing husband. Excited to see what the coming year has in store!

What did you do this weekend?

It was the last official weekend of summer – can’t wait to welcome fall this Sunday!!

Aw love this. Geez, I am pretty predictable in my cooking! 😉 Wow, gymnasts 2028 — clearly as I proved this weekend you’re a much better counter than I am!

Not predictable – you just know what we like. :) And I readily admit I needed to use a Google calculator to verify my math on the Olympic years, haha!
