Disclaimer: There is a sap fest ahead. Reader beware. I’m treating this as more of a journal entry (that just so happens to be broadcast to the Internet), so if you don’t feel like reading, I don’t blame you!

This is kind of surreal for me.

No, it’s very surreal for me.

I am at a loss on how to begin so I’ll just let my fingers do the talking typing.

It started out as any normal morning. Forecast: thunderstorms. But I got an email from Bobby at 8:33 am that said the rain forecast was now pushed back to 3:00 pm, which meant we were still a go for our round of golf! Yes, the weather is finally warm enough for golf in Chicago!

As some of you may know, I am a big fan of golf. In fact, one of the first “events” that Bobby and I attended together involved golf. It was my state high school golf tournament during my sophomore year. Bobby and I were just friends at the time, and actually didn’t know each other all that well. But he said he wanted to come and watch and, if I recall correctly, even stuck it out in the rain to see me play (I didn’t make that connection until I wrote this, Bobby!). That was one of the earliest moments that I knew he would be a good friend. And here we are, almost five and a half years later, still good friends and still playing the game I love so much. Only now, I’m competing against him instead of high school girls. I like our rivalry better 🙂

We arrived at the golf course just before our 10:00 am tee time (it wouldn’t be me if we weren’t running late) and took off. The weather was just right for golf. A little overcast, a little humid, but a nice breeze. The first hole started off reasonably well. I hit a decent drive, but nothing awe inspiring.

Eventually, we made our way to the green. Bobby putted first and missed by a few inches, so he just tapped it in while I made my way to my ball. I lined up the putt, but hit it way too hard! It went flying by and I made an aggravated “UGH” sound and started walking after it. That’s when I noticed there was something else in the hole.

I did a double take and said, “What is that?”

Bobby looked at me and said, “Uh, well…you were supposed to make that putt.”

I looked at him like he was crazy. Thanks for the confidence, bud, but that putt was a little too far away for a guaranteed make 😉 No matter who was right about that (although it was obviously me) I walked closer to the hole and peered inside. That’s when I realized it was a box.

“What is that? Wait…oh…oh my gosh…oh my GOSH!!”

Bobby then proceeded to tap in my putt for me, reached down and grabbed the object in question. Then he got down on one knee…

I can’t believe it. Well, I can believe it, but I am still in shock! He totally surprised me. I later found out that it took a few months of research and he certainly did his homework.

Oh, by the way, I said “yes” 🙂

After 5 1/2 years, Bobby put a ring on it. (Couldn’t help it – I love Beyonce.) I am thrilled, elated and, most of all, incredibly happy and in love. And that is officially my cue to END THE SAP FEST!

Regular posting will resume soon, I promise. I just couldn’t talk about food tonight! Although we did have a great lunch at Wildfire after our round to celebrate. I beat him by 1 stroke, by the way 😉
